This morning I woke up and needed a little extra inspiration. I turned to my archive of saved posts that I often refer back to when I need to get the adrenaline pumping again.
Alas! I came across one of my FAVORITE ones. An e-commerce store that recently sold for $16,000,000,000. 🤯
No other e-commerce store has ever sold for that amount of money in the history of humanity.
What's so unique about this article? Well, for starters - ANYONE can start an e-commerce business. Have a smartphone phone in your pocket with a little bit of internet? You're good to go!
Heck, I've run a few myself and currently help clients scale theirs.
Not every e-commerce store is going to be the next multi billion dollar acquisition. We all know this. But there are some similar take aways that I've noticed working with 7 and 8 figure brands that this billion dollar business also had.
This is something even I still struggle with from time to time.
Ohhh! Look a penny!
...See...
And this is likely why I've yet to build a 10 figure business. 😂
All jokes aside, brands that succeed are brands that are laser focused on their mission.
Instead of selling every single product or service under the sun, companies that pick ONE product or category are going to out perform those that dabble in a little bit of everything.
As a result of staying on task, companies gain a better understanding of who their products, services and most importantly - who their customers are.
The reason this particular company received a multi billion dollar evaluation is simple. They have a DEEP connection and understanding of their customers.
Building your businesses brand through customer connection is extremely important when is comes to scaling aggressively by encouraging engagement with your brand.
The more interactions you have with your customer base, the better you'll understand their needs, desires and satisfy their needs.
Does your business connect with it's audience, engage with them, and move them through an advertising funnel that is enjoyable?
Working with your customers to have them like and trust you, so they’ll want to buy your products from you.
Be authentic and real in your advertisements. Understanding and connecting with customers doesn't need to be difficult.
The system I use when marketing easy & straight forward:
Understanding these each of your customer traits allows you to connect with them on an emotional level.
I see this all the time. People are on 4th & 1 and are going for a Hail Mary. They think Facebook or YouTube ads are going to be the key component that skyrockets their business over night.
If this were the case, we'd all be walking around as multi millionaires by now.
In order to make the best use of your marketing dollars you need to understand direct response advertising and human psychology.
Going back to having a deep connection and understanding with your customers comes back into play here. Once you're armed with this knowledge, you can develop strong copy in your advertorials that speak directly to your customers in a meaningful way.
Just understanding the mechanics of an ad platform won't yield your the successful results your business craves.
There's the marketing aspect of marketing where you're on the front lines bidding for traffic and buying media, and then there's not non-marketing aspect.
Marketing itself includes the full spectrum advertising. You pay for an ad placement somewhere to display your product or service and in return it's placed in front of a targeted audience.
Non-marketing is everything else you need in your business. The day to day operations. The customer service, the shipping and receiving, sales team, product development, bookkeeping... you get the picture.
While an amazing ad can do wonders for your business, the non-marketing portion is what will make or break your business.
I see so many business attempting to fix a broken system by running paid traffic to their products or services.
If you screw up in the non-marketing, you can kiss the most brilliant advertising campaign ever created good-bye.
Look, I get it...It's much easier to try and use technology to fix your problems, than to do the hard work.
But by attempting to influence customers to buy a product you don't fully understand is going to hurt you in the long run.
If your offer is lacking and your site isn't up to par, you won't make the sale.
If your fulfillment process is unreliable and it takes weeks to get your product delivered to your customer, you won't get repeat business.
If your customer service support lacks communication and doesn't have access to what is going on, you won't get good feedback.
Digital marketing is not the savior of your company. It's simply an amazing tool that when used in the right context, can take your business to the next level like you never imagined before.
Running a successful, multichannel marketing campaign can be a challenge.
Me and my team over at Luxe Fulfillment have mastered the art of scaling advertising campaigns.
If you need a little extra help - it's worth letting the experts handle it while you focus on the non-marketing.
